Meeting in August and September
We had a meeting on emergency response by Netcare 911 and spill response in the work place or elsewhere. During September we had another workshop on the 2014 Construction Regulations which was presented by Basie Leshope, from the provincial office of the Department of Labour.

In June we had a breakfast workshop on the 2014 Construction Regulations presented by Neels Nortje, the Registrar of Saiosh. Approximately 40 delegates attended.
Annual FS conference 21 Nov 2013
On 21 Nov we had the second annual conference at the President hotel. Approximately 60 delegates attended with various exhibitors. The presentations were the following:

Meeting of 17 October 2013
On 17 October we had a presentation on ergonomic hazards and associated injuries. The presentation was led by dr Andre Roos of the UOFS. This was followed up by a presentation the affects and consequences of ergonomic injuries by members of FEMA. 25 delegates attended the meeting.
FS Branch meeting 5 Sep 2013
On 5 Sep we had a workshop on Hazardous task Identification and risk assessments.
The workshop was led by Morne Jones and Willie Venter. 30 delegates attended the workshop with overall feedback that it was a great success.
He covered the importance of HTI and RA and gave a brief outline of various factors to be considered and Willie covered the methodology and did n practical exercise on the premises of the Free State Residential care Centre, involving the delegates.
The presentation will be forwarded to all delegates and members.
An certificate of attendance will also be issued that can be used for CPD recognition.
Saiosh FS AGM 1 August 2013
In 1 August 2013 the FS AGM was held and the new committee elected for 2013/2014. Refer to the committee members for more detail.
Monthly meeting in May 2013
The meeting was held on 22 May 2013 with a presentation by Gart Singh on HCS from KZN.
Monthly meetings held in Feb and April 2013
We had a presentation on Behaviour Based Safety presented by Morne Jones in February and in April Doculam did a presentation on there systems. This was presented by Mandy Rae from the office in KZN.
Saiosh conference held on 22 Nov 2012
Saiosh FS Branch held a successful conference on 22 Nov 2012 at the President hotel. The presentations covered various topics which complemented each other. The event was attended by 50 delegates and various exhibitors. The program included the following:

Saiosh involvement with Free State Residential Care Centre
Saiosh Central Branch was approached by the Centre to assist in the Health and Safety aspects as part of the Vodacom Change the World Project. The first acitivity was to have 15 members of the staff trained as first aiders. This wa sdone in association with SHE Management Consultants. The cost of the training was sheared between SHE Management Consultants and Saiosh National. The next step will be the planning in various other safety aspects in the workshop and other areas in the Centre.
Monthly Meeting of 28 June 2012 on electrical safety
The presentation dealt with the safety in the general use of electricity and the legal requirements as stipulated in the various Regulations. The presentation was done by Flip de Jager, former inspector at the Department of Labour. Unfortunately the presenter from Eskom had other commitments. He emphasized the safe practices, noted misuse of appliances, equipment and the misuse of electricity in general. Navitas had an exhibition on medical surveillance, eye sight testing equipment for colour blindness. They also treated us with sherry and delicious soup which was most welcome in the present Free state weather. Thank you to everyone that attended and their contribution..
Saiosh Central Free State Monthly Meeting and AGM
held on 25 April 2012
On 2 April we had a presentation on the Asbestos Regulations and related legislation.
Thereafter we held the Central Free State AGM. SHE Management Services and Kevor had exhibitions on services and personal protective equipment. During the AGM the new members for the 2012/13 year were nominated.

Saiosh Central Free State Monthly Meeting
held on 23 February 2012
On 23 Feb 2012 we had a presentation by Adv Raynard Looch (Saiosh Corporate member) on the interpretation of Safety and Health legislation. The meeting was attended by 42 persons from the industry, businesses and government departments. We also had the opportunity to have Fire Quip and SA Muscle as exhibitors. The overall feedback is very positive as there are various aspects in the current OHS Act that leaves reason for miss-interpretation and implementation.

Saiosh Central Free State Monthly Meeting
September 2011
The last monthly meeting was held on 22 Sep 2011. The topic under discussion was “working at heights” The presentation covered the various risk factors as well as the precautionary measures that can be applied. The presenter was Anderson Cilliers from NOSA.
This was followed by a demonstration on the rescue of an employee that had fallen from a scaffold structure and was hanging on his full body harness. Anderson demonstrated the rescue equipment that can be obtained in the industry as well as how the equipment should be used. The scaffold structure for the demonstration was kindly donated by Wiehahn Scaffolding from Bloemfontein .
We also had Uvex, North Safety exhibitors of safety products and a NOSA display on fall arrest equipment. The presentation was very well accepted.
During the month of September the branch also had an editorial in the Free State Business Bulletin. The publication had a marketing focus on Saiosh in general and the Central Free State Branch. Our appreciation to all the members and Corporate members who participated in the promotion.

Saiosh Central Free State Monthly Meeting

Our last monthly meeting was held on 11 August 2011 at Lettie Fouche School where Hullen Maloisane and Me Deidre Aucamp from the Department of Labour were the main speakers.
Hullen confirmed the SHE legislation and Deidre Aucamp presented feedback on typical questions and answers that were gathered from SHE consultants and practitioners on the interaction with Department of Labour inspectors.
In the presentation Deidre Aucamp highlighted the capacity of SHE inspectors from the department for the Free State and various areas where misunderstanding and interpretation of legislation causes frustration between the inspectors and the SHE practitioners and employers.
Notes were taken of these aspects for further investigation and implementation by all parties to increase the main objective of a safe working environment.
We also had the Bloemfontein NOSA offices with a product exhibit.

Successful Meeting for Saiosh
Central Free State Branch
The Central Free State Branch of Saiosh held its first event since the new committee has been elected and ratified. This event was held on 2 June 2011 an no less than 50 members and guests attended.
Branch Chairman, Johan van Wyngaard, reports that the event was a huge success. The meeting was addressed by Dr. F Oostuizen an Occupational Medical Practitioner who discussed the legal aspects of medical examinations and Miss A Marais from the Department of Labour who spoke about COIDA and the claims procedures for occupational injuries and deceases.
Members interacted with questions as well as positive contributions. Congratulations to the Saiosh Central Free State Branch, you are functioning well. Keep an eye on this blog to see when and where the branch will hold its next meeting or event.

Bloemfontein holds it's first Saiosh Meeting
The first Saiosh Meeting in Bloemfontein was held on 16 March 2011 at the Lettie Fouche School in Bloemfontein. No less than 48 Saiosh members and visitors attended this inaugural meeting.
Saiosh President, Robin Jones as well as the Saiosh National Registrar, Neels Nortje, attended the meeting. Presentations were given on the background of Saiosh as well as the finer points on how to set up a Saiosh Branch.
The members present were all in favour of establishing a Saiosh Bloemfontein Branch and no less than 15 persons made themselves available to serve on the branch committee. Johan van Wyngaard from Ruwacon, Full Member of Saiosh, was tasked to set up the first branch committee meeting.
After the meeting the members interacted with one another and enjoyed the refreshments that were sponsored by NOSA. Saiosh wishes the Bloemfontein Branch all the best and knows that the newly elected committee members will make a success of the branch.
